Fruits are in...

...according to Lucky--purses, jewelry, etc. I'm either super ahead of the trends or really behind but I'm thinking the latter. I made these earrings a few years ago probably right after the last fruit trend. My friend asked if I wanted her to sell some things at a small craft fair so I gave her a few earrings, this included--it didn't sell. Oh well, at least it's back in style...for now anyway.

Japanese produce

When we were younger my sibs and I went to Japanese summer school, the only thing I remember about it was that we did a bunch of crafts. I got stuck working on a huge bunka shishu (Japanese needle punch embroidery) of a puppy. How do you figure that an 8 or 9 year old kid would have the patience to finish something as intricate and big as a 12 x 24 inch (I may be exaggerating but it was huge) piece of embroidery? I have to admit that I did chose the pattern, mainly because it was a puppy! Never finished the piece--surprise surprise.

Anyway my sister got to make these tiny felt fruits and veggies (I don't think I was offered this option). I recognize most of the veggies but some are a mystery to me--the red one next to the grapes and the orange thing next to the onion. She did a good job! My favorite might be the pea pod--I love the shape.

Anyone have chapstick?...

"My lips hurt real bad!" Ha ha, thanks to Kimber for sharing her chapstick with me! Makes me laff everytime I think about it.

I can't remember who's blog I saw this on but this site also cracked me up.

I don't know why but I was thinking about how to turn a t-shirt into underware today. I found this site a while back and have been meaning to try it but never found the right shirt to use. All I have are local political shirts but somehow I don't they'd be appropriate. Just creepy.

Easter prize

Thanks to MO and her family for throwing a kick-buns Easter party! So much good food and good times--it always amazes me how they put together such an extravaganza. Egg hunt for the kiddies, fruit/veggie hunt for the adults, games (2 shifts), and two auctions at the end. Not to mention all the food!

MUCH to my surprise I won the egg decorating contest. Taped the egg so that they kind of looked like flowers (tulips and tried to do a couple of roses) and then attached a chopstick as a stem and floral taped it. Very primative and I was worried that the eggs would fall off the chopsick but they held up pretty well with tape and glue gun glue.

Too bad I didn't get a picture before they broke but I don't mind, by that time they'd done their job! And check out the super cute prize--some kitchen things, stuffed duck thing, bear apron (I'm too scared to use it, don't want to get it mussed up) and a silkscreened turtle tea towel. Loving it!

Hope everyone's Easter was just as fun!

Bermuda shorts...the return of cutoffs

Been seeing those Old Navy commercials for Bermuda shorts (and subsequently have been singing the Fame! song in my head at work). They look suspiciously like denim cutoffs...especially since the edges of the demin ones the girl is wearing looks like its fraying. Just cuff 'em and they're good to go! I keed, I keed! I'm horrified but I have a feeling I'll succumb and eventually covet a pair. The clock is ticking...TNF (thoughts 'n feelings)?

Bubbles

Curse Martha and her tempting crafts! Read a Martha article a few years back on embroidery and I was intrigued so in the usual me fashion I ran out to the craft store to buy embroidery paraphernalia and started this bubble pattern on a couple of pillow cases. Two years later they're done! Sometime during the second pillow I got bored or discouraged or something and put it aside and found it two years later.

I blame Martha's crafts for sucking me into crocheting, knitting, embroidery. I took a crafting/personality test once and the results were that I have a short attention span and these are the worst crafts for me. I'll show that test!!!

Crappy close-up--the circles are actually crooked (I freehanded them), it's not just the non-flat fabric.

This hideous metal mouth is the inside of that felt pouch. Isn't it creepy? And you don't have to look closely to see that the edge stitching sucks. I was trying to go for a satin stitch edge but I couldn't figure it out on the sewing ma-chine and I was getting fidgety. I could have read the manual but that'd just be too easy, no?

Gorillazilla

GORILLAZILLA!!!!! With nuclear fire breath--WICKED! Cracks me up everytime I look at it. Too bad my co-worker who drew this didn't draw buildings to create scale. So what's with the scary blank eyes? Ask my co-worker.

Update on the Fruit Stripes tattoos or other "tattoos"--use hand lotion, works like a charm (although I don't know any kid who carries around hand lotion). It also looks like I'll have to buy more gum to "collect all 10" tattoos. What a con...wait, that's called marketing...what a con.

Fabric, nonsense and an energy block

Fun fabric I got at the Houston Ikea, a shout out to DP for taking us there! Everything else we did was delicious gravy...and I mean delicious (Texas BBQ, I heart you)! I think the middle fabric is going to turn into some part of an apron--one day.

My first felt...thing. I didn't have velcro or a zipper so I ended up sewing 5 snaps for the closure--I'd show a picture of the inside if it weren't so disturbing. Hot pink felt + snaps = creepy. Looks like tiny metal teeth in a gummy mouth. Yaaaaaaahhh!!!!

I used to make energy bars almost every week or it seemed in college. I think the recipient and I got sick of them after a while so I stopped...years later there seems to be a resurgence of this treat in my life lately and since I love anything that reminds me of my prework life* I decided to make some. Unfortunately I didn't have peanuts or raisins so I had to substitute dried strawberries and toasted almond slices. Eh, good enough (my life's motto except for strange little things that I get AR about).

*The smell of Neiman Marcus also reminds me of my prework life--I love it!

Old stuff

A necklace I made for an auction two years ago (it was a set, I made earrings too)...terrible picture. Looks like someone didn't read the manual!

Waiting...

I was bored waiting in the car so I found this little guy and practiced taking closeups. He has a pink ninja friend probably on the floor somewhere.

P.E. stretches

Am I so out of shape that a few "picking pineapples" and jumping jacks cripples me? Yes. Should I do these warm ups late at night? Why not? It's not like I'm stomping around like an elephant trying to dig a hole...but I think the apartment below us would disagree.

Yipes, Stripes!

Ahhh, sweet gum of my past--why do you lose flavor so quickly? Rondolo tried applying the "Yipes in Action" tattoos on his chest (he tried twice, one on each side) and it ended up looking like Eve's claw tattoos....if Eve's claw tattoos looked like blue blobs.
